*Apparently, Byron McLaughlin became something of a counterfeiting kingpin after his career ended. In the mid-eighties he started playing in the Mexican leagues. He made a deal while there with Korean companies to manufacture counterfeit sneakers — Reebok, Converse, Vans, Adidas — (As Footwear News reported, McLaughlin pleaded guilty to money-laundering charges and fled before sentencing, he is believed to be living near Cannes.)”
